How we helped CIVICUS beautifully model thousands of data sources
Working with one of the world’s largest NGO alliances to beautifully map shrinking civic space around the world: The CIVICUS Monitor.
CIVICUS is a global alliance of over 4,500 civil society organisations spread across more than 175 countries.
With increasing attacks on community groups, NGOs, charities and other civil society organisations across the world, CIVICUS needed a way to document the global pattern of repression, aggregating data from their members to pull together a picture of a complex global trend.
Working closely with CIVICUS to understand their needs, we were able to balanced a complex research and scoring process that aggregates data from sources around the world with a strong design and development process. The result is an easy to manage pipeline for input with a rock-solid data trail that results in a scoring of countries, reflected in a beautiful visualisation presenting headlines, data and rich media content seamlessly. Central to the work of CIVICUS in addressing civil society space, the Monitor provides a simple front-end experience that empowers activists and journalists around the world by putting the information they need at their fingertips.
“Right from the start, the Developer Society listened to us very closely and made absolutely sure they understood what we wanted to achieve with the platform before they got to work. Unlike other developers who proposed off-the-shelf solutions, the Developer Society took the time to fully understand the project’s context and goals and the results speak for themselves.”
