Elizabeth Fry: A Source of Inspiration
Elizabeth Fry, born on 21 May 1780 in the UK, was an English prison reformer, social reformer, philanthropist, and Quaker, famously known as the "Angel of Prisons."
- Prison Reform: Advocated for better treatment of prisoners, especially women, starting with her 1813 visit to Newgate prison.
- Association for Improvement: Founded the Association for the Improvement of Female Prisoners in 1817, lobbying for legislative change.
- Broader Reforms: Investigated mental asylums, improved convict ship conditions, established nursing standards, and supported education and housing for the poor.
At The Developer Society, Fry’s tireless work for social justice and reform inspires us. As a digital not-for-profit co-op, we aim to empower charities and NGOs, reflecting her dedication to human dignity and compassion.
We acknowledge that no one is perfect, including Fry. Our focus is on drawing inspiration from her positive contributions while recognizing that endorsing every aspect of a person's life and actions isn't necessary. We celebrate the values and actions that align with our mission to support social good through digital innovation.
