Great for: Registered charities working at the intersection of youth development, sustainability, health, and civic engagement, with a focus on empowering young people to be active participants in shaping their futures and communities. ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE FUND

ASHWORTH CHARITABLE TRUST

THE AUSTIN AND HOPE PILKINGTON TRUST

Deadline: For 2024, grant rounds 1 & 2 focus on disability (closed); grant rounds 3 (July) & 4 (September) focus on food poverty. (focus areas in 2025 are performing arts projects and refugees and asylum seekers)

BARING FOUNDATION - STRENGTHENING CIVIL SOCIETY

Great for: The Digital Freedom Fund supports strategic litigation on digital rights in Europe that contributes to advancing human rights in the digital sphere.

ESMÉE FAIRBAIRN FOUNDATION

GET UP RISE UP DIRECT ACTION FUND

Great for: The Get Up Rise Up direct action fund seeks to make resources available to local groups (both registered and unregistered) that often find themselves underfunded or under-resourced for a myriad of reasons, and who are planning creative direct actions as part of an ongoing campaign. Details depend on specific ‘calls to action’ that are issued on a rolling basis.

GOOGLE.ORG IMPACT CHALLENGES

Deadline: Depends on the Impact Challenge. Strengthening Democracy in Europe challenge is open (as of August 2024), offering grants totalling €15 million to scale initiatives related to AI and democracy.

Great for: Community focused not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises working to make their communities (and beyond!) a better place.

For Strengthening Democracy in Europe specifically: European nonprofits, civic organisations, academic institutions, and social enterprises working to promote democratic resilience through technology and AI.

GREEN HALL FOUNDATION

Great for: The Green Hall Foundation makes around 100 grants per year to registered charities. Unlike most Trusts the Green Hall Foundation changes its priorities on an annual basis, with specific sectors invited to apply at two annual application periods (May for charities across all annual income levels and November for those with £250K or less). Also fairly uniquely each application period closes as soon as the Foundation has received 100 applications. The Foundation usually awards grants of between £1,000 and £10,000.

HEART OF ENGLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Great for: Registered charities and other not-for-profit groups in Birmingham, the Black Country, Coventry, Warwickshire or Solihull. Details depend on the grant programme. Overall, projects must show a wider community benefit for a local area involving local people, and an identified need (e.g., health, young people, elderly, community cohesion, etc.).

THE HENRY SMITH CHARITY

Great for: UK registered charities and not-for-profit organisations, with a focus on social and economic disadvantage. Offers a range of grant programmes, including Improving Lives, Strengthening Communities, and Christian Projects.

THE JOSEPH ROWNTREE CHARITABLE TRUST

Deadline: Ongoing, several deadlines throughout the year

Great for: JRCT funds projects across five priority areas: peace and security, power and accountability, rights and justice, sustainable future and the ongoing transformation of the Northern Ireland conflict. Their funding priorities reflect the organisation's Quaker values of equality, human rights, justice and environmental sustainability. Funding applications are reviewed four times a year.

LLOYDS BANK FOUNDATION

Great for: Lloyds fund small and local charities with a focus on helping people overcome complex social issues across England and Wales. They support charities with an annual income of £25,000 to £1 million. Funding is unrestricted, including around core costs.

Great for: Sea-Changers gives grants to a range of UK-based, marine conservation charities and not-for-profit organisations. They are particularly interested in grassroots projects which galvanise community action and projects which increase the number of people taking action for marine conservation. SCOPS ARTS TRUST

Great for: Nonprofits widening access to the arts in their various forms and having a lasting cultural impact on the community.
