'Be Part of It' launch
The Developer Society featured in poetic short film celebrating co-ops in the West Midlands
We’re thrilled to announce that The Developer Society has been featured in Be Part of It, a powerful and poetic short film celebrating the vibrant world of co-operatives and mutuals in the West Midlands. This creative project brings together inspiring organisations, including The Developer Society, to showcase the strength and potential of shared ownership.
The film, commissioned by the West Midlands Ownership Hub and funded by Power to Change, beautifully blends dance, imagery, and a specially commissioned poem by Jasmine Gardosi, former Birmingham Poet Laureate. It shines a spotlight on co-operatives like Dance Co-operative Birmingham, Glue Collective, Hockley Mint, and, of course, The Developer Society—showing the diverse and innovative ways we’re all building a better, more democratic future together.
At The Developer Society, we’re proud of our journey to becoming a worker co-operative, rooted in our mission to align our business model with our values of creativity, ownership, and agency. Being part of this project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the thriving co-op movement in the region.
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Media Co-op for producing such an evocative film, and to all the organisations involved for their incredible work. As the film’s closing message reminds us: “Be part of it—so we don’t stand alone, so we keep on improving.”

Of course none of this was a surprise for Angus who already has quite the extensive IMDB profile... but for the rest of us it was lots of fun to be involved and watch Media Co-op work their magic.
